As a physician of internal medicine, Dr. Udell focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a broad range of illnesses in adult patients from age 18 until end-of-life.

Internal medicine physicians are specially trained in handling chronic diseases in situations where several diseases interact simultaneously. Much like a family physician, they treat the entire patient; therefore, many patients do choose internists as their primary care physicians.

As a physician in internal medicine, continuity of care is very important. Dr. Udell attends to his patient care from the office and also during the hospital admission; he personally visits his patients while they are hospitalized. He also places emphasis on prevention of diseases and control of risk factors in patients with many disease states, such as hypertension, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol levels.
