In 1941, Wuesthoff Memorial Hospital opened its 10-bed facility to the residents of
East Central Florida.
Since then, the community-oriented hospital, located in Brevard County, has remained
true to its founding commitment: To provide a higher standard of care to every patient,
every day. Today, Wuesthoff Health System is one of the most-respected, long-established
hospitals in the Central Florida area. Providing a full range of comprehensive healthcare
services, Wuesthoff touches an average of 2,000 lives each day. Yet, despite the
significant growth and change Wuesthoff has experienced, the original commitment to a
higher standard of healthcare has never wavered.
What is the Higher Standard?
As the company's hallmark, "a higher standard" has been the guiding force for
Wuesthoff's evolution from a small, community hospital to the completely integrated,
multi-level healthcare system it is today. The higher standard is a promise made by every
staff member to uphold one primary goal — excellence in service and care. In fact, U.S.
News & World Report recently recognized this dedication to quality care. In
its annual ranking of hospitals nationwide, U.S. News rated Wuesthoff
Hospital consistently higher than all other Brevard County hospitals.
Quality People, Quality Care
Wuesthoff Health System is a dynamic, growth-minded, people-oriented
hospital. We remain committed to bringing the best available healthcare to our
patients. Accordingly, we will continue to utilize the latest medical
technology, techniques and procedures. We will increase our community services
through outreach and educational programs. And, we will work to expand our
presence in Brevard County.
By working together as a team, Wuesthoff associates develop a special bond. They take
pride in their jobs, in their professions and in the health system they support. And,
Wuesthoff takes pride in them. Because it's not the building or the technology that makes
a great healthcare system — it's the people and their commitment to quality care.
After all, they are the foundation on which the hospital was built and our Higher Standard
depends.
Focus On Family
Sharing a common goal helps Wuesthoff's 2,600 plus healthcare workers and support
staff, and more than 215 active staff physicians, work as a unified team. Each year, this
Wuesthoff family of professionals provides more than $9 million in charity care to the
indigent, medically underserved and uninsured of Brevard County; $6 million in care to
Medicaid recipients; and $40 million in care to Medicare recipients. A busy hospital for a
facility its size, Wuesthoff admits an average of 10,000 patients and treats nearly 30,000
cases in the Emergency Department each year.
However, even as the numbers increase, Wuesthoff is still dedicated to bringing each
patient a higher standard of healthcare. The Wuesthoff philosophy is to know the patients
and their families personally, listen to their questions and concerns, and understand
their individual needs. This commitment not only ensures the best care possible, but
instills a sense of well-being in every patient Wuesthoff treats. In essence, Wuesthoff
associates carry out the commitment to a higher standard by caring for patients as though
they are family.
